The National Football League sold 40,000 tickets in 90 minutes for what will be the second regular season game played abroad in London's Wembley stadium.
The tickets for the Oct. 26 game between the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints used a lottery system to sell the first round of general admission tickets. Wimbley has a seating capacity of 90,000 for an American football game. As reported by Bloomberg News:
Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFL UK, said the pace of ticket sales matched last year's interest in the league's first regular-season game played outside North America, the New York Giants' 13-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Wembley in October. Wembley holds 90,000 for football, the NFL said.
More tickets will be available later, Kirkwood said. Tickets also are being sold to Saints and Chargers fans in the U.S.
The NFL has said that it is committed to having Webley host at one game for each of the next three seasons.
