Apparently Jerry Jones is a bit more of a penny pincher than some believe. According to Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn, Jones and the ‘Boys didn’t want him coming to camp because they didn’t want to have to pay him if he gets hurt again.
The Cowboys are trying to get an agreement with Glenn, as reported by ESPN.com: Glenn told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the Cowboys have asked him to sign a $500,000 injury settlement. Such an agreement would free Dallas of any obligation to pay him if he cannot play this season because of his knee. Reached Wednesday by The Dallas Morning News, Glenn said, "I really want to play. I thought the team had confidence in what I was doing in the offseason program that I can make it through the season. But with this contract, there might not be that much faith at all." Glenn reported to Valley Ranch last week prepared to work out with the Cowboys, but the team held him out of on-field activity, saying he was an experienced player and the coaching staff would be better served by getting a good look at Dallas' young receivers.
With Glenn on the hook for $1.74 million this season, one of the most valuable franchises in the league is trying to save just over half a million. Recently Jerry Jones claimed that cornerback Pacman Jones may have to play some offense, opening the door for Glenn’s departure.
