The Terrell Owens era may have come to an end in Big D. ESPN's Michael Smith just reported that the Dallas Cowboys have released their polarizing star receiver.
The Cowboys paid Owens a $12 million signing bonus just last year, included as part of a new four-year, $34 million deal. There was talk since the end of Dallas' disappointing 9-7 season, in which they missed the playoffs, that owner Jerry Jones was considering cutting Owens to improve team morale. Jones has apparently had enough of the constant run-ins with teammates and coaches that dogged the team last year. Owens' release comes on the heels of a 2008 season in which he caught 69 passes totaling 1052 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 15.2 yards-per-catch.The 35 year-old owens has played 13 years in the NFL, and an official announcment of his release by the team has yet to be made.
